Fire Protection System
The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania passed a law effective January 1, 2011
that requires a private fire protection system to be installed in all
newly constructed multi unit houses and townhouses. There is an annual fee
for inspection and maintenance of testing records. This fee will
be added to your quarterly utility bill. There are 2 types of
systems: Stand Alone or Combined Loop. Check with your
contractor/builder to determine which is installed in your residence.

* The Stand
Alone Fire System requires a separate meter and is
charged $12.50 per quarter ($50 annually).
* The Combined
Loop System does not require a separate meter
and
is charged $6.25 per quarter ($25 annually).
* Update 4-26-11 The law had formally applied to
single family houses. However, it has been repealed by
Pennsylvania's governor. It is now optional for single family
residences to have the fire protection system. If the builder
installs a fire protection system, the above costs will be
applicable.
