Moon Township Garbage/Recycling Collection Changes

Please be advised, on the scheduled bulk item collection week, the vehicle collecting refuse from your toter may be different from the vehicle that is collecting your bulk items. Should your toter be emptied, but your bulk item remains, you should expect another vehicle to collect it before the end of the day. If it is not collected by the end of the day, please contact the Municipal Authority office directly at 412-264-4300 in order to report this to Waste Management.

The Moon Township Municipal Authority handles refuse and recycling for residents through the assistance of a contract hauler. Pertinent information regarding refuse & recycling follows:

HOLIDAY WEEK SOLID WASTE/RECYCLING COLLECTION SCHEDULE

The pick up of solid waste/recycling will be one day late after holidays observed by waste hauler. If the holiday falls on a weekend, then the garbage/recycling pickup will follow its normal schedule, it will not be delayed a day.

Grass Clipping Disposal

In prior years our contracted waste hauler has allowed for grass clippings and general yard debris to be collected if bagged appropriately and weighing less than forty pounds. While these items can still be collected by Waste Management, it will only be if properly placed inside of your provided toter.

THESE ITEMS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED A BULK PICK UP ITEM.

The MTMA suggests cutting your grass frequently enough so that bagging clippings is not necessary.

These grass clippings provide nitrogen to benefit the soil, feeding your lawn. Leaving clippings on the lawn reduces the need to fertilize. Less frequent fertilization benefits the environment.

We encourage the residents who collect grass clippings to compost grass and leaf waste on their own property or in the Moon Township compost program. Grass clippings in paper bags, or loose, may be placed in the compost pile with leaves at Moon Park. Plastic bags are not allowed.

Curbside yard waste will also be collected periodically by the Township thru out the year. Please visit their website at www.moontwp.com for the schedule.  Residents are reminded to use paper biodegradable bags. Again, yard waste in plastic bags or boxes will not be picked up. Tree limbs should not exceed six feet in length and four inches in diameter and should not be bundled or tied. Please neatly place your yard waste at the curb.
